Our visit to Tierra Calma was one of the most special days I had during the 4 months I spent studying abroad in Spain this fall. For us, we were staying in center city Madrid and it took about an hour by car to get there. I would recommend this to anyone who was traveling to Madrid or the surrounding areas. The entire experience made us feel like we were special guests at the winery. While we were seated for dinner, Fernando welcomed us to the bar downstairs to have an after dinner drink where he spent additional time hanging out with us and socializing. We then ate at the restaurant that had delicious food. They not only gave us so much information on the process of making wine, but they engaged in personal conversation making the atmosphere feel like we were guests in their home. Once we were at the point to try the wine, Fernando to the wine expert and owner joined us for our tasting where we also had a few appetizers with our tasting. We were able to taste wines that were in the clarification process, wines that were almost ready to be in barrels, to wines that were straight out of the barrel, and finally bottled.

She then gave us an in depth explanation of the full process of planting the vines, to fermenting the wine, to putting them in barrels, and finally getting them bottled. It started with Eva, our winery tour guide, driving us from the restaurant meeting place to the winery. This experience was nothing short of once in a lifetime.
